For the past 7 years, I've been writing and sharing songs that are sketches of my journey with race, faith, and justice. The Underlay is the next step in the journey. These songs are an invitation into my story, but also a way to articulate a broader story, one that my ancestors and many others have been telling for generations.

"The Underlay" refers to all the dirt, the hay, and the dust that feeds, constitutes, and supports each one of us. The project is an expression of my desire to write songs and curate spaces in a way that can give folks the opportunity to be nourished, provoked, seen, and loved.
